Nograles denies eyeing justice department’s top post

DAVAO City Representative Prospero Nograles vehemently denied reports that he is eyeing the Department of Justice's top post as a stepping stone to his alleged dream of becoming a Supreme Court justice.

In a report by Newsbreak, Nograles is allegedly eyeing the justice secretary post since his ambition of becoming the mayor of Davao City is no longer plausible as Mayor Rodrigo Duterte reportedly will not allow it.

Nograles, in a telephone interview Friday, expressed surprise over the Newsbreak article as he reiterated his desire to continually serve the Dabawenyos.

"I find that news rumor very funny, ridiculous, and outright preposterous. Let us instead pray for the speedy recovery and successful kidney transplant of Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales. Whoever floated that news must have gotten it from a polluted and malicious source. I am okay where I am today," Nograles said.

The Dabawenyo congressman said if indeed he will be offered the post by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo he will not be easily giving up the representation of his constituents in Congress.

"I have not been informed of any such plan to move me out of Congress to the justice department. While it is most flattering to my career as a lawyer, it will mean sacrificing the representation of my constituency in Congress. At most these are only rumors from unknown sources," Nograles said.
