Thursday, September 20, 2007 Another Dimakiling seeks Shell grand final slot
UNIVERSITY of Mindanao (UM) woodpusher Adrian Dimakiling will try to seek a Grand final slot when the 15th Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship unfolds its eighth and final leg in Zamboanga City on September 29 and 30.
"His eldest brother Oliver wanted him to take the chance in the Zamboanga leg so he can join his other brother Chito II to the Grand Finals in Manila on October 20 and 21," Chito Dimakiling, his father, said.
Chito II, 20, emerged juniors champion in the just-concluded Davao-Mindanao leg held at the SM City entertainment plaza while the 17-year-old Adrian, who was a Grand Finalist last year, placed ninth. The latter earned six points along with second and third placers Jerwell and Jestery Andoy who also gained finals berths but Adrian got the lowest tiebreaks among eight 6.0 scorers.
"Sayang kaayo kay posible pa ungta siya mag-qualify kung wala lang nag-default ang usa niya ka kalaban. Mas mudako iyang tiebreaks kung nadula niya tanang matches (He could have qualified had he played all his matches. It was very unfortunate that he won a match via default. He could have higher tiebreaks had he played that match)," Chito said.
But the proud father of the Dimakiling siblings was resolved when he said: "It's not just the time for Adrian now. It's Chito II's time (smiles). This is the last Shell competition for Chito II because he is already 20. (MLSA)
