Group sponsors IT courses for Pinoys

THE Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS), which has been very supportive of the Philippine National IT Standards (PhilNits) certification program, is sponsoring a training program for Filipinos' industrial advancement.

Ma. Corazon Akol, president of the PhilNits Foundation, said AOTS will sponsor programs ranging from technical courses on teachers training programs on the fundamentals of IT as well as courses on the Japanese language for IT professionals and Bridge Systems Engineers course on the first two weeks of October.

"The scholarship grant will run for two weeks in Cebu and in Manila from October 1 to 12, AOTS will conduct the trainings for free, they will shoulder the accommodation, Davaoeños can either apply in Cebu and in Manila for the trainings, the participants will just shoulder their transportation," Akol said Tuesday during the inauguration of the PhilNits IT Business Center in Mindanao.

Akol added that the participants of the trainings should come from 100 percent Filipino-owned companies.

She said the courses encourage greater trade partnership between Japan and the Philippines.

She said the AOTS has been very supportive of the PhilNits certification program as it has sponsored programs, which focus on the global business deployment of Japanese private companies.

The PhilNits certification program is a project proposed by Japan. In this program, Japan will share its experience in the IT examination fields with Asean countries to help them implement an examination system for IT engineers in their respective countries and establish mutual certification standards.

"By establishing common standards with which to measure competencies in IT, we are able to promote a more effective use of IT engineers in Asia," Akol stated.

With the establishment of the PhilNits IT Business Center in Mindanao, Akol said there is a possibility that Japanese language schools will be developed in the city.

The office of the PhilNits IT Business Center in Mindanao is located at the DTI-Southern Mindanao building along Monteverde Street, Davao City. (JGRS)
