Friday, September 21, 2007 Sugarcane yield up by 22 percent
AN INCREASE of 22 percent was noted in the sugarcane production in Davao Region for the first semester of the year.
In a data taken from the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS), Davao Region's sugarcane yield reached to 523,481.22 metric tons as of June this year.
Like in the past years, Davao del Sur was identified to have the highest yield in sugarcane with a total of 523,284.82 metric tons, or an increase of 22.01 percent compared to its output of 428,872.46 metric tons in the first semester of 2006.
Of the four sugarcane-producing provinces in the region, which excludes Davao City, only Compostela Valley displayed a negative growth of 6.55 percent.
However, it is still identified to be the second highest producer of sugarcane in the region with 131.56 metric tons for the period.
Davao del Norte, on the other hand, produced a total 62.29 metric tons, an increase of 6.41 percent was noted for its production, while Davao Oriental had a total of 2.55 metric tons as of June. The province also recorded a positive growth of 1.19 percent. (JGRS)
