ICT Davao to present resolutions

THE congress director of the 6th Mindanao Information and Communications Technology (MICT) Congress said the ICT Davao Inc. would present some resolutions in the upcoming 6th MICT on October 23 and 24.

Lizabel "Wit" Holganza, congress director of the 6th MICT and 1st Bimp-Eaga ICT Congress, said during Friday's Kapihan sa PIA that some of the resolutions that they will present during the event will include the amendment of the City Incentive Code, the formation of the ICT Plan for the City, and the formation of a common Bimp-Eaga ICT network.

"Speaking as a private player in behalf of the ICT Davao, we support the amendment of the City Incentive Code, we proposed to include specifically the ICT sector, we also support the executive order in the formation of the Davao ICT Plan, and the formation of a common Bimp-Eaga ICT network where the exchange of ideas and opportunities in the ICT can happen," Holganza said.

Holganza added that the 6th MICT is a good avenue for the ICT councils of the Bimp-Eaga from both private and public sectors to converge and talk about how they can contribute towards the direction of attaining a common network for the ICT sector.

"Actually, there was a meeting in Manado, Indonesia recently. The Bimp countries converged and talked about the ICT concerns, the result of the meeting will be presented in the ICT Congress," Holganza said.

Holganza said the ICT Plan for Davao City is not yet ready. She, however, said the technical working group formed for the conceptualization of the plan has already convened and talked about where it could benchmark the city in terms of ICT.

Meanwhile, Holganza said this year's MICT Congress will have the participation of the stakeholders not only from the Philippines, but also Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia as well.

"This is the difference of the 6th MICT Congress from the past congresses. Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia will be joining us for the first time," she said, adding that the 6th MICT Congress will also feature side events like the plenary sessions, trade exhibits, quiz shows, business matching forums, a Mindanao Bloggers summit, business plan competition, digital photography exhibition, and an online gaming competition.
