MANILA - The Board of Investments (BOI) is currently undertaking the "Study on the Recycling Industry Development in the Philippines" with technical assistance from the Japanese government, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica).

The study, which will be completed in February 2008, aims to formulate a Master Plan and Action Plan to develop the Philippine recycling industry consistent with R.A. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, as well as Recycling Guidelines for Waste Generators, Dealers of Recyclables and Recyclers.

It covers two categories of recyclables: Category I that includes paper, metal, plastics, and glass bottles, and Category II that includes wastes of cellular phones, TVs, refrigerators and personal computers.
