Sunday, September 23, 2007 Davao lawmakers back House Speaker
DESPITE the alleged plot to unseat House Speaker Jose de Venecia (JDV) from his post because of the controversy involving his son and First Gentleman Mike Arroyo, several Mindanaoan congressmen are still behind de Venecia's leadership.
Representative Prospero Nograles (1st district, Davao City ) said it would be best for the Lower House “to proceed with utmost circumspect and never rock the boat in light of the latest controversy involving the Speaker’s son”.
“It would be best for all of us to get back to our legislative work before we recess on October 11th and as soon as possible pass the Cheap Medicines Bill rather than indulge or involve ourselves in this controversy,” Nograles said.
“The House has nothing to gain and there is no value added for anyone if we fan the fire in this issue. Only the opposition will stand to gain when we start to take sides. This is a call for sobriety and calm. Let the legal process now pending before the Supreme Court and the Ombudsman take its natural course. Only they can decide with finality the legality and or liability o the contending parties in the NBN issue,” he added.
Representative Floirendo Lagdameo (Davao del Norte) also said he will stand by JDV’s leadership. Lagdameo is a member of JDV’s Lakas-CMD party. (BOT)
