iCon to gather dev't partners from BIMP
By Carlo P. Mallo

DAVAO City will not only be hosting the 15th Senior Officials and the 12th Minister's meeting of the Brunei-Inodnesia-Malaysia-Philippines-East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-Eaga), but will be the venue of an investment conference to be participated in by the business sector in the sub-economic region.

Dubbed as the BIMP iCon, the investment conference aims to provide a wide range of interaction among stakeholders and development partners.

"The focus will be on the investment potentials and opportunities within the sub region," Cherryl Cipriano, of the Department of Trade and Industry, said in an interview Tuesday.

Cipriano added that one of the highlights of BIMP iCon would be the one-on-one business matching sessions.

"Even before the conference proper, we would already be matching potential partners," Cipriano added.

"It is designed to facilitate business match-ups and at the same time, challenge the key players to come up with strategic project ideas that can further increase the economic activities in the sub-region," Cipriano said.

"There would also be an investment exhibit to be participated in by the four member countries," Cipriano said.

More than 300 delegates from all over the economic sub- region are expected to take part in the conference.

BIMP iCon is slated on October 22-23, at the Marco Polo Hotel Davao.
