Wednesday, September 26, 2007 Pacquiao refuses to rest
AFTER a 10-hour flight from Manila to Los Angeles one would think Manny Pacquiao will stay in his hotel room to shake off the jetlag brought about by the tiring trip across the Pacific.
Instead of taking a rest, Pacquiao jogged around the Park La Brea Sunday morning just hours after setting foot in the City of Angeles that underscored his burning desire to beat Marco Antonio Barrera a second time.
Television network GMA-7 on Monday reported that Pacquiao also did some shadow boxing after the 30-minute run.
Pacquiao and Barrera meet in a rematch on Oct. 6 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. The highly awaited encounter will be a 12-round super featherweight clash between two of the world's best boxers.
The Filipino boxer beat Barrera the first time they met in November of 2003 via an 11th-round TKO and is highly favored to prevail anew against the Mexican called the "Baby Faced Assassin."
Pacquiao sparred for over 100 rounds in Cebu before flying to LA with trainers Freddie Roach and Buboy Fernandez, and the rest of his entourage.
Now weighing only 132 lbs., or just two pounds over the weight limit, Pacquiao is touted to be in great shape for this match.
In fact, a lot of boxing observers are anticipating another knockout win for Pacquiao, who was expected to spar Tuesday at the Wild Card Gym.
Barrera, who described Pacquiao "a painful thorn in my side," has been training in Guadalajara and is also reportedly in excellent shape.
