City to host BIMP-Eaga ministers meet in October
By Carlo P. Mallo

THERE seems to be no stopping the growth of the tourism industry in Southern Mindanao as it hosts this year's ministerial meeting of the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-Eaga) sub region.

Department of Tourism (DOT)-Southern Mindanao Director Sonia V. Garcia said Wednesday the city is ready to host the meeting in late October this year.

"We are very much prepared to host the BIMP-Eaga next month," Garcia said.

Apart from the ministerial meeting, Garcia said the DOT-Southern Mindanao is also preparing for a convergence meeting between the tourism and transport sectors of the sub-region.

"It is an opportunity to further strengthen the group and to consolidate our efforts to market the sub region," Garcia said.

"One thing that I have noticed about the sub region, particularly in the tourism sector, is the lack of marketing," Garcia said. "I hope that we would be able to address such in the convergence meeting," the tourism director added.

Davao City will be hosting the 12th Ministerial and the 15th Senior Officials meeting of the BIMP-eaga in October this year.
