DOT 11 celebrates national tourism week
By Carlo P. Mallo

THE Department of Tourism (DOT)-Southern Mindanao celebrated Wednesday the National Tourism Week with a light and color extravaganza at the SM City Davao Entertainment Plaza.

"It is a celebration of the booming tourism industry in Southern Mindanao," DOT-Southern Mindanao Director Sonia V. Garcia said in an interview Wednesday.

In her opening remarks, Garcia said if Kota Kinabalu was able to attract more than two million visitors with only three tourist attractions in the area, why should Davao settle for less when it has more than what Kota Kinabalu could offer.

"Davao region is overflowing with wonders and resources, we should aim to have more than 2 million visitors per year," Garcia added.

The celebration, dubbed as the "Pagpupugay Para sa Turismo Dabaw," was graced by the DOT-Southern Mindanao director and various tourism officers of other cities and municipalities in Southern Mindanao.

To further add color to the celebration, dance numbers and music were provided by the Kaliwat Theatre Collective.
