Friday, September 28, 2007 BIMP-iCon promoted in Palawan Friday By Joy Romares-Sevilla
AN OFFICIAL of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Southern Mindanao Thursday announced organizers of the BIMP-iCon, the first-ever investment conference that will happen in Davao City on October 22-23, are scheduled to leave for Palawan Friday to conduct a roadshow, which will promote the event.
DTI Provincial Director Teolulo T. Pasawa told Sun.Star Davao that organizers earlier conducted roadshows in major cities in Mindanao, including Butuan, Zamboanga, Surigao, Cagayan de Oro, and General Santos City.
"The group is scheduled to leave tomorrow (Friday) for a roadshow in Palawan. During the roadshow, the group will not only promote BIMP-iCon, but also all other events to be held in Davao City in October like the Davao Trade Expo 2007, the 6th MICT Congress, and the BIMP-Eaga Conference," Pasawa said.
He said the group, which will conduct the roadshow, is composed of representatives from the Mindanao Economic and Development Council (Medco), Mindanao Business Council (MinBC), Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII), and from the DTI-Southern Mindanao.
Pasawa said they are expecting more than 300 participants to join the BIMP-iCon.
"We expect delegates from the Northern Territory, Indonesia, and Malaysia. We expect 20 delegates from each area. Also, participants from the tourism sector not only from the Philippines, but from the three other countries comprising the BIMP-Eaga," Pasawa said.
"DTI conducted several investment conferences in the past, but this event is the biggest. The difference of this event from those we earlier conducted is that this event aims the generation of projects either business or developmental in nature. The investment conferences we have conducted only focus on business discussions and opportunities," Pasawa explained.
"Through this event, we hope to identify projects that will accelerate the realization of our goals, and improve trade and investment within the four countries. There are concerns and issues regarding investment that one country cannot solve. So, there is a need for convergence and involvement of the four countries," he added.
The BIMP-iCon will be held at the Marco Polo Davao.
