ANOTHER case has been filed against a controversial Korean national who got the ire of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for refusing to heed a law that bans smoking inside a public vehicle.
After he was charged for disobeying police officers, Korean national Bit Maru Han, 26, of Ladislawa Village in Buhangin, is also facing charges for violating Republic Act 9211, otherwise known as the Tobacco Regulation Act.
City Prosecutor Shahruddin Roberto Sencio found probable cause to hold him for court trial based on the complaint of the taxicab driver, Juanito Dumanig Libre, 36, of Marfori Heights.
In an affidavit, Libre recalled how Han rode his taxi with a companion on his way to the Korean casino at the Apo View Hotel and lit up a cigarette, even resenting Libre's warning against smoking inside the taxi.
Libre claimed that the accused got angry and even tried to grab the steering wheel from him. He said he sought for police assistance, leading to the arrest of Han. No bail was recommended for the respondent's temporary liberty.
Han is reportedly brought to Manila by the regional office of the Bureau of Immigration, where he is facing deportation proceedings after he was found to be carrying an expired visa.
