Friday, September 28, 2007 Garcia: Welcome to Davao, Korean friends! By Imee Garcia
"AN" "YOUNG" "haseyo!" I may have spelled it wrong, but if you say it aloud, it means "hello" in Korean. It's always nice to see new faces in town. Not that I'm tired of looking at the same local faces everyday, puro mga guapo and guapa naman tayong mga Davaenos, di ba. (Smile!) But, it's nice to see and meet people of different cultures every now and then. Many Koreans are taking notice of our city. It's time we welcome them.
We have so many Koreans playing in our golf courses. Most of them do not speak English well. If we would like to communicate with them, we might as well learn a few Korean words. Here are some of the important words we must learn: (forget the spelling, just memorize how to say them aloud!)

I've mentioned so many words. It's a good start. If you want to know more, I guess you’ll have to take lessons, or, be close to a Korean and you will learn from each other. I'd like to thank my good friend Kim Young Ran. She helped me translate these English words to Korean. As I've said before, I may have misspelled them in English, but they more or less sound like that. E & G International Language Center is a very good school for learning English. If you know of Koreans who would like to learn English and play golf at the same time, they can get in touch with Mr. Park Kang Wook. The school is located at Maryknoll Rd. BO Vicente Hizon, Davao City.
