Saturday, September 29, 2007 Bike for Life hits Davao Sunday
THE Bike for Life Tour 2007, a journey of courage and hope that kicked off in Manila last September 16, will end in Davao City Sunday.
Participating riders led by James Auste, a brain cancer survivor and executive director of the Cancer Warriors Foundation, will arrive at 12 noon at the Vitarich dressing plant in Tugbok.
Auste and the core group of volunteer riders, together with 10 parents/caregivers of kids with cancer who joined the 14-day journey, will be met by local biker groups and members of the press.
From Vitarich, the riders will then proceed to the Davao Medical Center where a program will be held, including an audio-visual presentation on cancer by former congressman Roger Sarmiento and his family.
DMC chief Dr. Gerardo D. Cunanan will give the welcome message during the program, while Davao City Councilor Gerard Bangoy will speak on the city's initiatives in health.
Auste will express his gratitude to officials and supporters of the Bike for Life 2007 Tour.
Through this journey, Auste and his entourage want people to know that kids/teens with cancer need not die if diagnosed early and treated properly.
Auste said they also want to reach out, inspire, and encourage kids and teenagers fighting cancer as well as give hope to families of kids/teens with cancer.
The tour is neither a race nor a competition.
Throughout the 14-day day journey, James and the 10 parents, along with other volunteer riders, honored and recognized the courage of the young kids/teens with cancer who are still bravely fighting this terrible disease as well as remember those who have lost their fight.
The Bike for Life Tour 2007 is a call to action. Not one member of the core team is a professional cyclist.
However, organizers believe that if the kids are courageous enough to fight cancer, they should be bold enough to bike, to tell and share their life stories.
The Tour also had stops in Calapalan, Kalibo, Roxas, Bacolod, San Carlos, Dumaguete, Cebu, Bohol, Cagayan de Oro and Bukidnon.
