Saturday, September 29, 2007 PP cue masters reach quarters
AFTER surviving a scare against Scotland, the Filipino pair of Efren "Bata" Reyes and Francisco "Django" Bustamante settled right away in their second match in the PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool.
Bad, bad news for Croatia.
Displaying a near-flawless game, Reyes and Bustamante pummeled the Croatian pair of Putnik and Stojanovic, 8-0, as the defending champions advanced to the quarterfinals Thursday at the Outland nightclub in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The stunning victory set the Filipinos up for a quarterfinals showdown with either China or France this Saturday.
Bustamante even highlighted the win with a sensational kick shot to pocket the 7-ball into the right side of the pocket in the seventh frame after Reyes left him out of position.
It was a completely different performance by the Philippine pair this time, a vast improvement of its 8-6 win over Scotland's Michael Valentine and Pat Holtz Tuesday.
With their game improving each game, Reyes and Bustamante are very much in the hunt for a second consecutive title after ruling the event's inaugural staging last year in Newport Centre, Newport, Wales.
In clinching the crown that year, Reyes and Bustamante crushed Rodney Morris and Earl Strickland in the finals, 13-5.
In another match, Japan's Satoshi Kawabata and Naoyuki Oi edged Holland A's Niels Feijen and Nick van den Berg, 8-7. in thriller of a match.
