6 more sections of Shelter Code tackled Tuesday
By Grace L. Plata

THE last six sections of the Shelter Code is set for discussion Tuesday, marking the end of the dissection of the re-proposed ordinance.

The thorough discussion of the ordinance was made so by the City Council in order to craft a more effective law and prevent embarrassment for the body as the Shelter Code passed during the 14th council was vetoed by City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. Thus, it has been re-proposed and taken up as new item in the 15th Council.

Last week, the City Council tackled Sections 8-20 which included the provisions on the identification of beneficiaries, the priority socialized housing plans and the establishment of the Local Housing Board.

"Hopefully, it will be completed tomorrow (Tuesday). Sections 21 to 26 na lang ang kulang. The most sensitive provisions were already approved," Councilor Arnolfo Ricardo Cabling said.

Sections 21 provide putting up a trust fund earmarked for housing projects. Section 22 provided that the city housing authority will be the implementing arm for the program, Section 23 orders the coordination of special committees while Sections 24-26 are on standard requirements on publication and effectivity.

Groups that have campaigned for the passage of the Code during the 14th Council continue to be watchful and are still pushing for the immediate passage of the Code in the current council saying the ordinance should be considered as a priority of the body.
