Australia-based groups help city streetkids

COMMUNITY organizations and individuals in Melbourne, Australia have pooled their resources to help the street kids of Davao City through Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte's "Sagop Bata Para sa Kaugmaon" project.

Donations of clothing and small medical equipment such as nebulizers and inhalers were handed out to assist the needs of these children housed by then Bankerohan Barangay Captain and now City Councilor Edgar Ibuyan.

Updates on the Kadayawan Festival 2007

Gathering of the donations were made by Davawenyo Victoria, Inc., Filipinos Now & Then, Australian Society of Modern Women, Filipino Australian Multicultural Support Society, volunteers and supporters from Filipino and non-Filipino background.

The donation was personally received by the mayor's daughter, Vice Mayor Sara Z. Duterte at her office at the City Council building on September 21.

Davawenyo Victoria Inc., headed by Ambet Agarano, leads the campaign in Melbourne for this project.

Agarano is also the Vice President for External Affairs of the Filipino Communities Council of Australia, a national body of Filipino organizations in Australia.

The donation was transported from Melbourne, Australia to Davao City through the courtesy of EHA Services, a door to door shipment company owned and managed by Ernie Altarejos, another Filipino leader and his United Filipino Organization.
