Defective products, most common consumers' complaint: DTI

DEFECTIVE products continue to be the primary complaint lodged by consumers before the Consumer Help Desk of the Department of Trade and Investment (DTI) –Southern Mindanao.

Refusal of store owners to replace defective products is against the law.

According to Paciente Cubillos of DTI Southern Mindanao, a bulk of the complaints lodged against his office involves defective products and that store owners refuse to replace such products.

Complaints about defective products is but one of the various problems faced by Consumer Help Desk of the DTI. Along with other problems of unfair trade practices, DTI aims to be able to prevent at least during the celebration of the Consumers Welfare Month.

DTI will celebrate the Consumer Welfare Month for the entire month of October. The event holds the theme "Consumer Education and Information: Key to Consumer Empowerment."

One of the highlights of this month's celebration is the Consumer Fair 2007 at the atrium of the Gaisano Mall of Davao from October 4 to 6.

Another event to look forward to is the poster-making contest which will be participated upon by 25 high schools from all over the city.
