Militar says Arroyo should be reminded of HR violations By Grace L. Plata
IT IS not only Myanmar who needs to be told to respect human rights, but President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, as well.
This was the remark of Councilor Bonifacio Militar, the City Council floor leader, after Councilor Leonardo R. Avila III proposed a resolution supporting the Asean's and United Nation's call for Myanmar to respect human rights, free Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi and all political detainees, and move towards democracy.

"It we can do that for other countries, why can't we do it for our own?" Militar asked in jest, causing laughter to break out from the council members as well as the spectators gathered during Tuesday's session.
Avila, however, was not keen on taking up Militar's suggestion.
"It is his suggestion, he has to do something about it," Avila said in an interview.
Militar, who was by his side at that time, shot back saying, "he should be the one to propose it, the idea came from him after all."
