Army raids NPA camp, captures 4 rebels
By Ben O. Tesiorna

THE Army's 25th Infantry Battalion raided a New People's Army (NPA) camp in Baganga, Davao Oriental on September 30, capturing four rebels and rescuing a civilian said to be a captive of the group.

Troops from Charlie Company of the 25th IB led by 1st Lieutenant Marvin Incocencio and 2nd Lieutenant Thelson Cabagnot raided a temporary rebel encampment in Sitio Marquez, Barangay Campawan resulting in the rescue of Evenezer Flores and the capture of four NPA members from Front Committee 15 operating in the northern portion of the province.

The captured rebels were identified as Bernard Chaves alias Jojo, team leader of Baking Team under Section Committee 2, Front Committee 15 of Southern Mindanao Regional Committee, Carlos Nazarinos, Manuel Mosos, and Wenefredo Sadugio.

Flores, 56, resident of Maco in Compostela Valley, was found handcuffed and hogtied in one of the NPA outpost apparently in preparation for his trial at the NPA's kangaroo court as revealed by the captured rebels during their custodial debriefing.

NPA instructional handbooks and training certificates signed by the NPA commanders were recovered in the camp.

The rebels admitted that they have been in the area for the past three weeks conducting teach-ins for their so-called "masa" (supporters).

Also recovered were one caliber .30 US Carbine Rifle, two modified Cal 5.56 M16 rifles, three shotguns, combat packs, uniforms, bandolier with magazines, ammunition, and subversive documents.

The rebel camp can accommodate at least 20 persons with the makeshift structures for sleeping and meeting.

Major Rolando Rodil, chief of the army's 25th IB, said they have filed criminal charges against the four rebels before the Banganga Municipal Trial Court for illegal detention, illegal possession of firearms, and violation of the election gun ban.
