Class B table tennis tournament fires off

IT'S all systems go for the 1st Davao City Class B Open Table Tennis Tournament on November 3 and 4 at the Davao Wisdom Academy (DWA).

Lawyer Blue Ventosa, project director of the organizing Telecom Table Tennis Club (Tetatec) Class B development, said the two-day competition aims to revive class B table tennis in Davao.

"It's been awhile that a class B table tennis tournament was held here. What we usually have in Davao is open tournaments for class A players. We are hoping to jumpstart class B table tennis with this tournament," Ventosa said during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn Thursday.

Tournament chairman Vic Calañas said the meet is open to all ages regardless of their genders.

Calañas said they expect 50 teams and 100 singles players in the event that offers P5,000 cash prize for the team champion, P3,000 for the runner-up and P2,000 for third placer.

The singles champion will pocket P2,500 while the next two placers will get P1,500 and P1,000 in the tournament supported by the DWA-PTA.

Registration fee is P300 for each team and P100 for single players. (MLSA)
