Garcia: Playing for Honor
By Imee Garcia

AS YOU know, the United States Team won against the International Team in the President's Cup last week held at The Montreal Golf Club. Which team were you cheering for? The final score was 19.5 points for the U.S. team, and 14.5 points for the Intl team.

They all played well. They didn't play for the money. There was no money involved. It was for honor. The U.S. Team members felt that it was a privilege to represent their country, and to play for Jack Nicklaus as well, who has been the team captain several times.

Updates on the Kadayawan Festival 2007

I know the feeling and I will never forget it--becoming an athlete, representing Davao City and Mindanao, and competing against other foreign athletes during the Arafura Games years ago.

I was with PSC Chairman Butch Ramirez and other dignitaries, and there were a lot of athletes with me who competed in several sports like boxing and swimming.

We wore a uniform bearing Mindanao, and we also marched inside the stadium, with fireworks, so people cheering, so many athletes from different countries participating, wow, just like in the Olympics. I will never forget that moment for as long as I live.

Winning is not always about money and appliances. Whether the prize is a TV set, a microwave oven, or just a simple trophy, it is getting the title that's important.

And if I were asked to represent my golf club, my city, or my country, it would be such an honor to do so.

Enough talk for now. I need to congratulate a lot of winners as there were two tournaments held last weekend. They should be given due credit for the effort they put in for winning.

Congratulations to the winners of the 3RD Vicente "Botoy" Hizon Memorial Golf Tournament.
