Mats routes STI, 84-61

THE Mats College of Technology routed STI Davao College, 84-61, in the college division 2 of the 5th Gaisano South (GS) Cup basketball tournament at the GS Citimall SkyGym Thursday.

Jhun Karlo Quibel lifted Mats with 16 points, 11 of which came in the second quarter, seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal.

Jerry Armentia topscored with 18 for STI's losing cause.

Mats improved to a 2-1 win-loss card while STI dropped to 0-3 in the cagefest sanctioned by the Basketball Association of the Philippines-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (BAP-SBP).

In junior division 2, Eden Boy Bialao sparked St. Therese High School with game-high 32 points to overcome Davao Wisdom Academy (DWA), 89-85. He grabbed 19 rebounds, one assist, and one steal to pocket the best player of the game title.

Today's games pit UCCP vs DPCL at 10 a.m. and Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) vs Stela Marris Academy of Davao (Smad) at 12 p.m. in the mini division.

The Davao City National High School (DCNHS) plays against AdDU in cadet B at 1:30 p.m. while AdDU A battles AdDU B at 3 p.m. in girls division.

Collegiate matches feature Brokenshire College against San Pedro College in division 2 at 4:30 p.m. and Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) against DMMA College of Southern Philippines (DCSP) at 6 p.m. in division 1. (MLSA)
