Hope dims for remaining miner in Diwalwal tunnel
By Ben O. Tesiorna

HOPE is waning for the miner who remains trapped inside a tunnel in Diwalwal since its collapse in October 3.

Mt. Diwata barangay captain Franco Tito said they fear that miner Fermin Piquero is already dead as there is already a foul stench coming from inside the tunnel where the miner's body is still trapped.

He said the two other miners, brothers Julie Salupan and Generito Salupan, were unearthed underneath rubbles of soil and stones at around 10 in the evening of October 5.

The miners were inside the Australia mining tunnel and proceeded to an identified danger area, a stretch of the tunnel that is prone to caving in but also leads to a prime gold vein.

Recovery operation is still ongoing as of Sunday.
