Stanfilco washes hands off closure of banana carrier
By Ben O. Tesiorna

STANFILCO is washing its hands off the closure of the Davao Integrated Transportation Facilities Inc. (DITFI) that has been servicing the banana company for the past 15 years.

In a press conference Monday, Stanfilco human resources manager Fil Sanchez said their company has nothing to do with the decision of DITFI to close shop. It was learned that DITFI officials decided to close shop Monday morning after incurring heavy losses for the past three years.

Sanchez said DITFI has been Stanfilco's hauler for 15 years now but that it has been losing around P7 million a year since the past three years. He said the losses were due to an internal problem and have nothing to do with the contract with Stanfilco.

Sanchez said that with DITFI's closure, they expect the name of Stanfilco to be dragged into the issue considering the close relationship between the two companies. He clarified though that DITFI is a separate company and not a part of Stanfilco.

Sanchez said the Stanfilco management is also not involved with the DITFI management and vice versa. He said the only thing that binds the two companies is the hauling contract.

Sanchez said DITFI management has already informed them of its decision to close shop and that along with it is the termination of their contract.

Stanfilco however assured their clients that the DITFI closure will have little effect on their operation and that their products will still be delivered on time to the market.

Sanchez said they have already tapped the services of other hauling companies to address the vacuum left by DITFI's closure.

It was learned that about 270 employees were affected by DITFI's closure. Sanchez said they have no plans though of buying out the company.
