Bloody blast in CenMin remembered

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Makilala Mayor Onofre Respicio led thousands of his constituents in commemorating Thursday the first anniversary of one of the bloodiest bombings in Central Mindanao since 2004.

Respicio led town officials, government workers, and private individuals, in a moment of silence as they gathered in front of the town hall.

Relatives and friends of those killed lit candles and offered flowers at the bombing site.

Until today, Respicio said justice is still elusive to those innocent individuals who died in this senseless killing.

On October 10 last year, a very powerful bomb planted in one of the mini-stalls in front of town hall exploded and killed on-the-spot three persons.

Five other individuals died while being treated in different hospitals nearby.

The explosive was fashioned from an 81-mm mortar attached to a Nokia 3210 cellular phone as triggering device.

The town at that time was celebrating its 52nd foundation anniversary. (Malu Cadelina Manar)
