Friday, October 12, 2007 Garcia: Fat golfers and skinny golfers By Imee Garcia
A RECENT study had some interesting conclusions on the weight of golfers in a particular golf league. This study indicated that the single golfers who play in these leagues are 'skinnier' than the married ones. The study's explanation for this result was interesting. It seems that the single golfer goes out and plays his round of golf, has refreshment at the 19th hole, goes home and goes to his refrigerator, finds nothing decent there and goes to bed. The married golfer goes out and plays his round of golf, has refreshment at the 19th hole, goes home and goes to bed, finds nothing decent there, so he goes to his refrigerator." (Haha. I've been told that I am biased when it comes to telling jokes--always picking on the guys or making them look bad. So I decided to find one that's the opposite.)
If you are trying to lose weight--diet and exercise is the way to go. Golf does not really make you lose weight. It is good for the heart and lungs, that's for sure. Although, playing golf does help you lose a little bit of weight. You burn calories when you walk. But when you drink a beverage with sugar and eat a big snack afterwards, you gain back the calories you burnt.
Stay healthy and fit. Eat right. Exercise. Lift weights. Work out. Go to the gym. Remember, medicine is expensive!
Speaking of married guys, some of them are quite fit. I wonder what their secret is...maybe there's a 20th hole. (Aha!)
Attention Golf widows, FYI, the awards ceremony of monthly tournaments in Apo Golf Club is usually at 6 pm-7 pm. Lanang Golf & Country Club has its monthly tournament awards ceremony at 4:30 pm until it finishes, which is not so very late. And the monthly medal awards ceremony at Palos Verdes is at 4:30 pm and usually finishes before 7 pm.
But please take note that during the awards ceremony of open tournaments or big tournaments, especially if the venue is not at the clubhouse, expect your hubbies to come home much later because it is a party. There are food and drinks, and some entertainment. The guys usually have a pleasant time at these awards parties...that is...if they attend it. They might say they're going to attend, but end up going somewhere else, like attend a late night mass, or buy groceries.
It is always interesting to know who the winners are, ladies. It's always nice to know what the major raffle was and who won it. (That is usually the finale--announcing the winner of the major raffle prize). It is nice to know who else attended the awarding, or what Mr. "so and so" wore at the party, or if there were women who attended the party. So ask your hubby when he arrives home. I am sure he will love to hear you say, "Did you have a great time?" He will be pleased to know that you're interested in details concerning the sport he loves. (It's a subtle way of checking up on him.)
Upcoming tournaments:
Cavalier's Cup--October 13, Stableford competition, double barrel. Fee is P1,800.00
Durian Tee--November 29-December 2. Team and individual competition. (Details to follow.)
