Saturday, October 20, 2007 PSC to revive friendship games
THE MINDANAO Friendship Games will be revived next year, a good reason for Mindanaoans to celebrate.
Prior to the revival, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is also holding the Sports Summit on Nov. 4 to 7 at the Notre Dame University of Cotabato in the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (Armm).
Davao City Sports Council, Inc. president Vic Sai said PSC Chairman William "Butch" Ramirez wanted to revive the Games in 2008.
The Games had its inaugural staging in Tubod, Lanao del Norte in 2001. Cagayan de Oro hosted it the following year and finally, Mati, Davao Oriental was the venue in 2003.
But the competition was halted in 2004 due to funding constraints.
Sai, who guested at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA), said PSC's 2008 budget was increased after Ramirez successfully defended it at the Senate.
With this, reviving the Games was among Ramirez's priorities aside from the top goal of winning the gold in the Beijing Olympics, Sai said.
Davao City is defending champion in the MFG.
Said added the Philippine National Games will also be revived next year. (MLSA)>/b>
