Councilor backs feeding program
By Carlo P. Mallo

THE Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the Davao City National High School will launch the "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind" Supplementary Feeding Program next month.

The program has gained the support of Councilor Edgar Ibuyan.

Leciefina Abaniel, officer-in-charge of DCNHS-PTA Inc., said in an interview Thursday that the concept of their flagship project is to serve selected students with free lunch for 90 days.

"This is a partnership project with DCNHS-PTA Inc. and Councilor Ibuyan, who is very supportive to the education of poor children," she said.

Abaniel said they have already identified 55 students as initial beneficiaries of the project.

She said the beneficiaries have been chosen based on the economic status of their respective families.

There are a total of 7,305 students enrolled at DCNHS for the school year 2007-2008.

Ibuyan said it is already a big help for schoolchildren to have free lunch especially when the money given to them by their parents is only enough for their transportation.

He is hoping that such noble project will be sustained so that more students will benefit. (With press release)
