According to Gempesaw, vehicles coming from the south but not heading to Davao Memorial Park must take the right turn towards Quimpo Boulevard into the city.
Those who are headed to Davao Memorial Park are also advised to turn right to Quimpo Boulevard but are allowed to turn left and pass through Tulip Drive emerging at McArthur Highway in Matina.
All four lanes of the McArthur Highway are one-way lanes heading south. Trucks and buses bound south, however, are advised to take Sandawa Road and Quimpo Boulevard.
"Sauna (In the past), private vehicles lang ang tugutan makasulod (are the only ones that can enter) from Tulip Drive to the front of Davao Memorial. To us, that seemed unfair kay daghang tao ang mag jeep lang human mag baklay pasulod (because there are a lot of people who take the jeep and have to walk a long way). Ang uban mag-collapse na labi na mga tigulang kay layo-layo pud baya to. (Others collapse from tiredness.) Mao nang karun, pwede na makasulod ang mga jeep from the city to hangtod sa front sa Memorial Park (This time, we allow jeeps to go to as far as the Memorial Park gate)," Gempesaw said.
On the other hand, those who are bound for San Pedro Memorial Park, Masonic, Municipal, and Chinese cemeteries can use the San Pedro Extension-Fr. Selga route using the Lopez-Jaena St. as exit.
Gempesaw said traffic enforcers will be detailed in the areas to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic when Dabawenyos visit their departed loved ones.
"Naa pud tay mga help desk sa mga areas and we will also put up signage along the highways para dili ma-confuse atong mga motorista," Gempesaw said. (We will put up help desks and signage in the highways to help motorists.)
He added that the liquor and smoking bans would be strictly implemented in the cemeteries. (GLP)
