Saturday, October 27, 2007 Luli leads Coral Triangle project
Presidential daughter Luli Arroyo, an advocate of environmental protection, visited Davao City together with senior officials, government heads, and other stakeholders to strengthen the Coral Triangle.
Among the countries included in the so-called Coral Triangle are Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines. Her visit was timely as the different BIMP-Eaga senior officials were in the city since Wednesday for the Senior Officials Meeting held every four years.
"A scientist released a result of a study claiming we are at the center of the marine biology in the whole world. That makes us custodians of the marine resources," Luli said.
The Philippines is dubbed as having the most number of coral species, fishes, and other marine life.
Luli has been visiting other countries, which are part of the Coral Triangle, to hold meetings and solicit initiatives from the different stakeholders.
Her team is now focusing on solutions and actions for fisheries networking and mariculture development.
In her visits, Luli has seen potential areas as well as areas that need thorough attention as these have been categorized endangered.
"We are trying to look at the different policies that we have, study them, and find ways on how to further implement those policies in our territory," she said.
The fish trade sector is now the center of her team's attention as this would concern and affect so many other issues like illegal fishing and international poaching. (PIA)
