Saturday, October 27, 2007 East Davao seizes lead in 21st Rotary bowlfest
DEFENDING CHAMPION and host Rotary Club of East Davao took the lead with 2,904 pinfalls as of the second outing last Sunday in the current 21st Inter-Rotary Bowling Tournament at the NCCC Mall bowling center.
However, opening salvo leaders Rotary clubs of Digos and South Digos remained in contention in the Governor's Cup classification, after sliding down to third and fourth in the ranking with 2,867 and 2,842 pinfalls, respectively.
According to past president Amador "Ading" Macatangay, tournament chairman, RC Matina ranks second with 2,877, while RC Downtown Davao with 2,707, and RC Central Davao with 2,705 ranked 5th and 6th respectively, to qualify in the governor's cup division.
Macatangay said it was a heartbreaking round for the combined team of RC Durian and Pag-asa Davao, which was only one pinfall shy to qualify for the governor's cup contest. Now it is leading in the President's division with RC Sta. Ana Davao, RC South Davao, RC Davao 2000, RC Calinan Davao, and RC North Davao in that order.
On other hand, RC Waling-Waling Davao and RC Urban Davao combine, RC Metropolitan Davao, RC Toril Davao and RC Davao dispute the fellowship division.
In team and individual honors, RC Digos got highest team single, while highest team double went to RC East Davao.
Highest individual single (men) went to Paul Basan of RC Digos South, while highest individual single (women) again went to spouse Lady Comia of RC Digos.
Oca Laguna of RC Pag-asa got the highest individual double (men) honor and Tina Alovera of RC East Davao, last year's star lady bowler, took the highest individual double (women) honor.
The third outing and the start of the championship rounds is scheduled at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the same venue.
