Diwalwal has not been properly explored: Mines bureau
By Carlo P. Mallo

THOUGH much blood has stained the slopes of the gold rush site of Diwalwal in Compostela Valley, its mineral deposits remains to be unstudied by anyone including the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Southern Mindanao.

"There are three major mineral sites in the country today, but it does not include Diwalwal," Edilberto Arreza, chief of MGB-Southern Mindanao said in an interview Sunday.

Post comments here on President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's grant of pardon to former President Joseph Estrada.

The three major mineral deposit sites in the country includes the Lepanto Mining operations in Benguet in Luzon, another is the Gold and Copper deposits in Buyugan in Surigao del Norte, and last is the Sagitarrius Mining Incorporated site in Tampakan in South Cotabato.

"Unlike the three sites, Diwalwal was never properly explored and drilled," Arreza added.

He also said if Diwalwal could only be properly explored it might belong to the top three mineral deposit sites in the entire country.

Ever since Diwalwal has been tagged as a gold rush site, miners from noth small scale and large scale companies have flocked the area. With the intense competition in the area, a number of companies have had rifts which led to the loss of numerous lives.
