Batucan, who got 5.0 points, bagged P500 and a trophy for winning the crown. Nikki Engayo finished second for P300, while Neptali Batucan placed third.
The tournament was organized by Davao City Councilor Leonardo Avila III in cooperation with the Davao City Chess Club headed by Sammy Yu.
Yu said the Avila chess tournament will now be a monthly affair, with the second staging set Nov. 3 also at Osmeña Park.
