Petecio, whose younger brothers are now also learning the rudiments of the game, created waves when she ruled the 50-kilogram category in the recent Smart National Open Youth and Women Amateur Boxing Championships in Cagayan de Oro.
Petecio, a third year high school student from Bago Gallera, was a member of the Calinan Boxing Team which saw action in the national slugfest.
The young boxer desires to make it to the Philippine national team anytime just to pursue her boxing career.
Petecio's golden performance in Cagayan de Oro elicited positive result as Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) sercretary general Roger Fortaleza is seriously considering her to be included in the national training pool.
This was confirmed by Prescilla Petecio, the boxer's mother, when they graced the regular Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum Thursday at the Tower Inn.
Nesthy, who idolizes Manny Pacquiao, even shadow-boxed for DSA members during the forum and was also interviewed by GMA 5 Davao's Tek Ocampo.
"He (Fortaleza) said they're interested to get Nesthy to join the RP team," Mrs. Petecio said.
