Tuesday, October 30, 2007 Taiwanese traders willing to invest in fruits, meat By Joy Romares-Sevilla
TAIWANESE businessmen who visited Davao City last week for a business matching activity and for the Taiwan Technology and Investment Forum have shown interest in fruit and meat products of the Davao Region.
Trade and industry assistant regional director Marizon Loreto revealed this in an interview Friday, saying the Taiwanese businessmen are interested in products such as processed fruits, pineapple, and banana chips and even meat products such as hog.
"There is a possible market for the processed fruits and banana chips in Taiwan. What we should do is just promote packaging. Also, one of the things they told us is their interest in our meat products, but of course we need to meet a certain requirement, like for example, the product should be free from foot and mouth disease," Loreto said.
The group of Taiwanese businessmen was invited by the regional office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 11 to provide processors and exporters in the food sector in the region the latest technology and equipment in food packaging and processing.
Loreto said the group provided the necessary tools in order to improve the processing and packaging quality and competitiveness of products in the region.
Among the equipment and machineries that the group brought in are food cooking mixers, vacuum packing machine, sealing machine, a labeling machine, and others.
