Friday, November 02, 2007 LPG price hike, a blow to the poor
DAVAO City Councilor Edgar Ibuyan said the increase in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices is another blow to the city's poor sector.
"Always man na siya basta naay increase, ang maapektuhan gyud ug maayo kay ang mga pobre (That’s always if there is increase, the poor are the ones always affected)," Ibuyan said in a phone interview Thursday.
Especially now that Christmas is fast approaching, Ibuyan said it does not bode well for the consumers who are living from paycheck-to-paycheck.
"Maski kinsa dili gyud gusto ani. Kung pwede, dili lang unta [mu-increase]. Dili lang tungod kay pasko pero kulang-kulang gyud ang income sa mga empleyado ug sa mga trabahante (Nobody wants this, if possible no increase in LPG prices. Not only because it’s Christmas but because the income of the people is really not that good)," Ibuyan said.
The five-peso-per-kilo increase was announced Wednesday by LPG dealers, citing record contract prices in the world market as the reason. The rate hike took effect November 1 and is set to stay until early next year. (GLP)
