Friday, November 02, 2007 San Pedro cops work overtime to safeguard 5 cemeteries By Rhodamae M. Hernandez
SAN Pedro police station, who has the biggest number of cemeteries to guard, had to go on overtime to safeguard the five cemeteries under its area of responsibility.
San Pedro police chief Alden B. Delvo said that with his 50 personnel and 10 additional recruits, he will see to it that cemeteries are peaceful and the liquor ban strictly implemented.
"I cannot tolerate that and I will not have a second thought of arresting them if there is blatant display of beer bottles and other liquors," Delvo told Sun.Star Davao.
He said, however, that he cannot really stop people from drinking at the grave of their departed loved ones but they will, at all means, prevent it.
He said that with his four patrol cars to make rounds at Wireless cemetery, Masonic/Chinese cemetery, San Pedro Memorial Park, Orchard Memorial Park, and Forest Lake Memorial Park, he is quite confident he can effectively implement the law during the two-day celebration.
Delvo added that cemetery goers have forgotten the true essence of the days, which should not be celebrated like a fiesta inside the cemetery. (RMH)
