Cebu dribblers win ICBL title

THE Aces-Living Word Christian Ministries of Cebu stripped Davao of its crown after beating the Beatitudes Christian Fellowship, 84-75, at the close of the Inter-Church Basketball League Mayor's Cup Invitational at the Gaisano South (GS) Citimall Skygym Wednesday.

In an earlier game, the Good Shepherd Church downed Temple of Praise Christian Fellowship, 79-69, to place third.

Aces headcoach Alfonso "Al" Solis, who also mentors the MVBA Arthro Kontra Arthritis, relied on six-foot-nine American Joshua Manthe and Jojo Omandan in the defense department to grab the lead in early in the first half.

The Allan Josol-coached BCF, which was supported by Sulpicio Lines, tried to rally in the second half but Solis's wards proved they were no pushover as they never looked back to secure the win.

Aces' University of Visayas (UV) standout Michael Cantonao topscored with 23 points to clinch the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Manthe and Omandan added 21 and 10 points, respectively.

Charlie Rosauro led BCF with 13 points in the tournament supported by the Davao City Mayor's Office, Davao City Sports Office, Sulpicio Lines, HARK Marketing, United Pharmacy, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Challenge, Inc. and BAP/SBP Regional Office under Regional Director Regino "Boy" Cua. (MLSA)
