Garcia: The NGAP and the Federation of Golf Clubs
By Imee Garcia

ONE golfer asked his friend: "Why are you so late in arriving for your tee time?" His friend replied: "It is Sunday. I had to toss a coin between going to Church and playing golf."

"Yes," continued the friend, "but that still doesn't tell me why you are so late."

Post comments here on President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's grant of pardon to former President Joseph Estrada.

Post your comments on the explosion at the Glorietta 2 mall in Makati City.

"Well," said the fellow, "It took over 25 tosses to get it right!"

What is the Federation of Golf Clubs? As stated on their website, (http://www.federationgolf.com/index.htm), here is a brief history of how it came about.

"Prior to 1997, non-profit organizations, including private golf courses, were exempted from payment of income tax. Since the senate proposal to lift this exemption in 1996 to its subsequent approval in 1997, golf clubs have been lobbying against this resolution. What started out as a forum for members of six (6) golf clubs (Manila Golf & Country Club, Capitol Hills Golf & Country Club, Wack Wack Golf & Country Club, Canlubang Golf & Country Club, Valley Golf & Country Club and Puerto Azul Golf & Country Club) to discuss the resolution consummated in the founding of the Federation of Golf Clubs (Phil.), Inc., then aimed at opposing the proposal. The twelve (12) original member clubs eventually grew to its present twenty-five (25)- member strong federation."

The list of member golf clubs of The Federation can be found on their website. I am wondering if Rancho Palos Verdes is a member of the Federation. If it is, why is its name is not on the list?

And what is the NGAP? "The National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP) is the official golf-governing body of the Philippines, duly recognized by the International Golf Federation (IGF) which is the official governing body for the sport of golf all over the world, which is, in turn accredited by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The primary objective of the Association is to promote golf as an amateur sport for the development of physical fitness and the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play." There are a lot more things you can learn about the NGAP on their website.

The website of the NGAP is www.ngapgolf.com. The list of member golf clubs is stated there. I wonder why Apo Golf Club, Lanang Golf Club and Rancho Palos Verdes are not on the list. Only Davao City Golf Club is on the membership list.

I guess it's just a matter of updating the websites. A representative of each of our local golf clubs should get in touch with the NGAP and/or the Federation of Golf Clubs and provide them with information so that our local clubs will be listed on the online sites.

With these internet sites, we can also know what's going on with the golfing world in the rest of the country, so do check them out.

It's time for us to get updated. The internet is here!!! Hi-tech time! Let's put ourselves online!

Congratulations to the winners of the 9th Monthly Medal of Ranchos Palos Verdes last October 27-28, 2007.
