City Hall spent P3M for last polls

THE City Government of Davao spent more than P3 million during the last barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections to augment the budget shortfall of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

According to City Administrator Wendel Avisado, the city provided funds for the Comelec here to hire additional personnel to man the polls.

"The city will provide the fees from services rendered until October 31," Avisado said.

The funding was also used to print additional election paraphernalia such as ballots and election returns since the ones sent by the Comelec Central Office were not sufficient for Davao's voting population.

"Kulang ang naipadala nila so the city shouldered the cost of printing the materials," Avisado said.

During the May midterm elections, the city shelled out around P5 million for personnel's fee and election paraphernalia. (GLP)
