Wednesday, November 07, 2007 Tadeco refutes militants' claim of foreign ownership
THE Tagum Development Corporation (Tadeco) refuted claims of militant group Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) that the company is controlled by foreign agro-corporations.
The statement was in reaction to a Sun.Star Davao story published Tuesday entitled "Militants rally versus trade pact in Japan" wherein KMP Spokesperson Celso Pojas said that "the Arroyo Administration has already targeted 2 million hectares to increase the landholdings controlled by foreign agro-corporations like AJMR-Sumitomo, DOLE Philippines, Tadeco, and del Monte."
"We would like to clarify that Tadeco is not and has not been controlled by foreign agro-corporations," Tadeco said in a faxed statement sent to Sun.Star Tuesday.
The message states that "while Tadeco sells its produce to foreign markets, which brings in hundreds and millions of dollars to the benefit of the Philippine economies, its ownership under the Floirendo family, has always been 100 percent Filipino."
Aside from these clarifications, Tadeco also stated their contributions to the community prove they are a local company aimed at helping the Philippine economy.
"For years, the Tadeco company has been instrumental to the social, economic, and cultural development of comes communities in Davao del Norte, adhering to its corporate social responsibility and commitment to serve the people." (GLP)
