Wednesday, November 07, 2007 Uy: Shooting of Tagum village chief is personal grudge By Carlo P. Mallo
TAGUM City Mayor Rey T. Uy denied assertions by Bincungan barangay captain Israel Maug Sr. that the attempt on his life by his older brother, Jaime, on the eve of the barangay elections was politically motivated.
"Not true," was Uy's reply to the query if a political figure in the provincial Capitol was actually behind the slay attempt. "Personal conflict ang rason (The reason is purely personal conflict)," he said.
In a recent report, Israel asserted that someone from the Provincial Capitol masterminded the slay attempt against him last October 28.
Israel said his older brother, Jaime, could have been ordered by this politician to kill him since they could not get hold of him and his supporters in his barangay.
Further, Israel said that some of his fellow barangay captains have tipped him off that his brother was frequenting the Governor's Palace prior to the slay attempt on his life.
Israel has already filed charges of frustrated murder and violation of the gun ban against his brother.
The suspect, Jaime Maug, is nowhere to be found.
Israel does not foresee any reconciliation with his older brother in the near future. He said it might only be possible when justice has been served.
