THE World Pool Championship was to go into its knockout stage starting Wednesday afternoon with 13 Filipino pool players from the original number of 15 advancing to the last 64.
Defending champion Ronato Alcano and former winners Efren "Bata" Reyes and Alex Pagulayan led the Pinoy charge in the next round.
Others who made it were Jeff de Luna, Lee Vann Corteza, Francisco "Django" Bustamante, Leonardo Andam, Roberto Gomez, Joven Bustamante, Dennis Orcollo, Ramil Gallego, Marlon Manalo and Antonio Gabica.
Two of the last 64 pairings pit a Filipino against a fellow Filipino.
Alcano won last year's event at the expense of Ralf Souquet of Germany, while Reyes won in 1999.
Pagulayan, called "The Lion," topped the tournament in 2004. (CRAM)
