Davao teams in POF finals

THE Davao Football Association (DFA) will send its under-15 and under-17 teams in the 2nd Philippine Olympic Festival (POF) National Championships slated November 12 to 18 at the Philsports Complex.

The Davao teams earned the national finals berths after sterling finishes in the regional eliminations in Cagayan de Oro City last August 13 to 19.

DFA secretary general Erwin Protacio, during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn on Thursday, said it would require a huge sum to send the teams to Manila.

But it seems the financial aspect of the preparations have already been taken cared of with the help of City Government officials and private sponsors.

Davao City councilors Bonifacio Milatar, Mabel Acosta and Leonardo Avila III, City Administrator Atty. Wendel Avisado, Sports Development Division chief Christopher "Bong" Go, Columbia Manager Edward "Chaya" Lam and EMAR Learning Center directress Mrs. Lita Montalban funded the travel of the U-17 squad.

Protacio is head of delegation of the Davao contingent that will hold quarters at Philsports courtesy of Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William "Butch" Ramirez. (MLSA)
