City sponsors Mecca pilgrimage

AN EIGHT-person delegation is set to go on a pilgrimage to Mecca courtesy of the Davao City government.

Davao City Mayor Rodrgo Duterte bid the delegation good luck after he handed them the funding for the trip.

Every year, the city shoulders the expenses of a number of Muslim constituents for the Hajj or the pilgrimage to Mecca which is asked of Muslims to do once is his or her lifetime.

The city chooses the grantees based on their financial situation.

The delegation is composed of one member per Muslim tribe settling in the city. A representative from the women's sector is also chosen.

The group departs on November 26.
