Thursday, November 15, 2007 Tech-voc trainers given until Dec. 31 to submit certification By Grace L. Plata
THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) gives all technical-vocational instructors only until December 31 to work on their assessor's certification. If not, they will not be subject to termination in the Tesda-accredited institution where they are connected.
The training and tests for the assessor's certification, however, is free of charge.
Tesda-Southern Mindanao information officer Mafel Joan Negrido-Gamale, in a phone interview Wednesday, said trainers are now also required to become assessors. This means that that the trainers are qualified and certified to give the competency tests required of technical vocational students.
Gamale said this is part of Tesda's efforts to upgrade the capability of tech-voc teachers in order to produce even more competent graduates.
"[This is done] so that they would be able to teach the things that are likely to come up in the competency assessment as well as those that are meet the industry requirements," Gamale said.
She added that tech-voc institutions are subject to regular auditing by Tesda thus Tesda can monitor if all trainers have their assessor's certification.
"They won't be given teaching loads unless they are certified," Gamale said.
