2 men sued for rape
By Rhodamae M. Hernandez

THE City Prosecutor's Office charged two men accused of conspiring to rape a woman in Mandug, Davao City, in September.

Facing charges for violation of the Republic Act 8353, otherwise known as the Anti-Rape Law, are Arnold Feloso Veniegas and Richard Abol Nuiquia, all of ZDU Subdivision in Mandug.

City Prosecutor Shahruddin Roberto Sencio recommended the filing of charges based on the complaint filed by the victim, Dorothy (not her real name), 21, of Tigatto, Buhangin.

In an affidavit, the victim claimed that at around 7:45 p.m. on September 4, she was riding a motorcycle driven by a neighbor. She was on her way home.

She said that when they reached Las Palmas in Mandug, they were flagged down by two men, later identified as the suspects.

Dorothy claimed Veniegas immediately took the seat beside her and without provocation pointed a knife at her and dragged her to a dimly lit and grassy portion of the place. While doing this, the other suspect was pointing another knife at the driver.

She claimed she was forced to lie on the grass where she was raped by Veniegas. She said that while Veniegas was calling out Nuiquia for his turn, she managed to escape with the driver and they proceeded to Tigatto.
She said she went to the Mandug police outpost the next day and lodged her complaint.

A manhunt operation was immediately launched, leading to the arrest of the suspects and the filing of the case.

No bail was recommended for each of the respondent's temporary liberty.
