Cultural village showcases lumads culture, tradition
By Carlo P. Mallo

MAGSAYSAY Park has been revived and brought back to life with a cultural village, part of the Kalimudan Expo 2007 that showcases structures set up by different tribes in Mindanao.

Kalimudan Expo, which will formally open tomorrow, hosts over 24 groups of indigenous people.

One of the highlights of Kalimudan is the architectural showcase of the various dwelling places of the indigenous people. Most of the materials used were even brought by the tribes from their respective hometowns to the city.

Department of Tourism Regional Director Sonia Garcia said one of the goals of the cultural village is for everyone to understand and be aware of the diversity of culture that can be found in Mindanao.

Garcia said Kalimudan is funded by the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts.

Apart from the architectural showcase, the cultural village also provides the showcase of dances and rituals of the tribes.

A leader of the Mansaka tribe, one of the participating tribes in the exposition, said they want to share their culture and make the people understand them.

Kalimudan is a Bagobo-Tagabawa word that means gathering for a celebration.
